legend, and it’s been authenticated, is that gould’s father hand made him a piano chair when he was young. ‘too low’ for an older man. but GG refused to ever use any other chair and it traveled with him throughout his entire performance career. musical critics and musicologists attribute to his low position relative to the keyboard, the source of his remarkable playing.

isn’t that beautiful? eccentric? brilliant? defying the expectations of the norm?

perhaps analogous to hendrix playing a guitar from a left-handed position, strings upside down. or, pharrow sanders playing two saxes simultaneously?
