in honor of this historical ‘american moment’, i’m re-posting this:

the pics that follow show the complexity of lubell’s work. and, two biographical details that are important to mention: lubell was a phd student in psychology at wisconsin u. in the late 60s when the campus exploded with protest. and, his father was an early contributor to polling. and, one more ‘fact’: lubell’s machines are all made by hand by the artist, out of cheap pine, without nails, etc., and the gears that make them work/not-work, are made of wood. lubell’s work has been made in the ‘heart’ of ‘silicon valley’, and against the ‘heart’ of that non-beating machine.
