VanDerBeek worked with Licklider on the latter’s committee, MAC – man and computer research group at MIT, between 1969-70.
the following documents were made by vanderbeek at bell labs with ken knowlton on the first ever computer generated digital image/film program, bflix, created by knowlton, in 1966, prior to the licklider essay cited in the previous post. i cite it here as an example of a historical moment when construction, maintenance, and use, were in fact, possible. vanderbeek did his own programming, with knowlton’s help.
