transversality is opposed to universality: it cuts through ‘disciplines’, for a specific purpose, to unsettle them, to discover/invent knew knowledge, and is an alternative to interdisciplanarity, which is the ‘reformism’ of knowledge production. transversality is what ‘art’ at its best, accomplishes. it finds alternative paths through spacetime. science does that too, sometimes. but far more rarely today because it’s bound by the economic systems of big science. art too, falls into the art market equivalent of big science. but even when it does, it’s often more knowledge productive than big science. even when it’s questionable.
